Personal Bio: My name is Jimmy Grippa. I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. I attend the University of Cincinnati. I am majoring in Secondary Education with a focus in History. I graduated from LaSalle High School. I coach high school football and high school basketball. I work at a bakery called Servatii a. I have a younger brother and an older sister. Also, I have nephew named Liam and three dogs.
Professional Goals: My personal goals are to become a history teacher and to become the head coach of a high school football team. I was born into a family that loved teaching and l do too. My Dad is the offensive coordinator at Mount Saint Joseph. He has been coaching and teaching for over 30 years now. He has also previously coached at Fairfield high school and Elder High school. My uncle Gary is a Special Education teacher as well. Seeing how much they love their jobs makes me want to do the same.
Course Goals: I wanted to take this course to broaden my knowledge about all of the technology that I could potentially use in the classroom when I am a teacher.
Sample #1
I created this video along with Dylan to teach our classmates how to upload a video onto youtube.
This connects to the classroom by demonstrating the use of technology on how to upload videos to youtube, and our wiki spaces.
This was connected to the standards because we used technology to show our presentation. This connects to standard number two, which is Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments.
We created this picture collage in groups to show how money is used in the classroom. Equipment and tools necessary to study with can be expensive and we showed how expensive they can be.
This connects to the classroom because we use technology everyday. If The University of Cincinnati did not have enough money to buy computers, or a smart board we would not be in this class.
This connects to standard number three because we worked in groups creating a digital picture collage to show how expensive technology can be in a classroom. Standard number three is Model digital age work and learning.
Sample #3 Educational Game:
I chose this video game because it enables students to learn about history while having fun playing a video game.
This connects to the classroom because you have to use technology to play the game. For instance, a gamer needs either a computer, laptop, or a smart phone.
This connects to standard number two because I am demonstrating a way of using technology to teach students about history. Standard number two is design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments.
We created a collage to teach students about the policies of fair use.
This connects to the classroom because we are in groups interacting and creating a collage.
It can connect to many fair use standards, but I chose Standard 1: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity because students get to exercise their creativity when they choose their photos. They also are actively engaged in their learning.
Dog and girl sharing ice cream- Sharing relates to fair use because it’s opening up barriers that used to exist with old copyright laws. It is now a lot easier to use images that are from various media sites. Since the world is becoming smaller due to the internet, sharing is something that people need to adjust to.
Bill of rights- People need to be more aware of their rights concerning copyright laws. Teachers sometimes limit their lesson plans and use of creativity because they are afraid of getting in trouble. However, if they were familiar with fair use, they would find their limits less constraining.
Social media- People put their images on a social media site knowing that many people are going to see them and have access to them. There is not much safety or control when it comes containing that image because the internet is unsafe.
The horizon- With fair use, teachers realize they do not have as strict rules with copyright as they thought and have more freedom to use what they find. This gives them the ability to be more creative with their lesson plans.
Education- If you are using the image for an educational purpose fair use comes into play. For instance, the collage we made is in using pictures in a creative and educational way. This makes it acceptable under the fair use laws.
Adding value- Adding information to an image found on the internet adds more value to the image itself because it is accompanied by the information you are providing. This ultimately changes the pictures overall value and it's use becomes acceptable under fair use.

Reflection The lesson plans were a great way to express our ability to use technology in the classroom. Our group, the dinosaurs, wanted to use a presentation at the start of our lesson plan so that our students could attain some background knowledge about dinosaurs. Then we wanted to have the students take a group quiz so they could apply their knowledge and work together solving each question. Finally, we wanted to do a fun, engaging activity making fossils. We thought the fossil making was a great way to have fun while learning about dinosaurs. After doing the presentation, I realized that I should have gotten the students involved more during my lecture. A presentation is a great way to learn, but when you’re dealing with a bunch of fourth graders I have to make sure they do not lose focus. It is very easy for kids to lose focus, so I should have done an activity where they either used the smart board or done a group activity. In essence, I wish I would have utilized more technology in my lecture. I found myself as a teacher becoming bored just standing up by the computer talking. If I were to do it over again, I would definitely get the students more involved. After the presentation we had a group quiz planned. The group quiz was a great activity to get the students interacting with one another. The only problem was the quiz would not open during class. As a teacher we need to be prepared and in the future it may be smart to bring another source just in case your technology fails. Sophie did a great job weaving around the quiz not opening by making her own little quiz as she went through her power point discussion. Finally we had the students make their own fossils. This was a good way to get the students involved in our lesson plan. The only thing I learned about doing something like making fossils was next time we need to have an example so the students know what their trying to make. We found that the students were confused in what their goal of the activity was. Overall, I thought our lesson plan went well. There will always be room for improvement and I am happy we did this. I have learned how to get the students involved more, and I realize now that there are many ways to get your students involved in class. Technology can be a big distraction for kids in a classroom, but as a teacher if you can find a way to use that technology to learn it can be very beneficial to your students. Having a constructivist style way of teaching is the best way to teach and your students will learn more if you can find a way to have your students interact with one another while learning.
